WhatsApp recently renovated its “Status” feature. The feature has now been rolled out globally. The company communicated the same through an e-mail, stating that the new status was now live across the globe, on iPhones, Android and Windows devices.
The company said:
WhatsApp Status is now available for all users across the globe. Starting today, iPhone, Android and Windows users can send photos, videos and GIFs through Status to share special moments throughout their day with friends and family.
WhatsApp launched the new feature a couple of days ago. The renovated Status is available in an all new tab in the WhatsApp interface, and lets you share decorated photos, videos, and GIFs with friends. Similar to Snapchat Stories, everything you share here disappears after 24 hours.
WhatsApp also shared a few tips regarding how the feature could be deployed to the best effect.
So for example, you can share who can see your status update. Simply go to WhatsApp’s privacy settings, and from there on, you can choose the people who will receive your update.
You can select from the following three options: “my contacts,” “contacts except…” and “only share with…”
You can also see who has viewed your status update. Simply tap the eye icon at the bottom of any Status update. Once you do so, a complete list of contacts who have seen your update will come before you. Cool, right? Tough luck to all those stalkers out there who were rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of having another place to ply out their trade.
WhatsApp also allows you to view someone’s Status update and then reply using a button, that allows you to comment on any photo, video, or GIF. Simply tap reply before someone’s status update and your message will be sent in form of a WhatsApp chat with the thumbnail of the Status update
The company has also shared a how-to video regarding the use of the new Status. You can watch the same right here.
