Elon Musk, Tesla

There has been quite a lot of hullabaloo regarding Tesla employees and  their unionization efforts. The issue first came to light following a medium post by a Tesla employee in which, he talked about employee’s desire to unionize. However, CEO Elon Musk has not changed his opinion and still believes that particular worker to be on UAW’s payroll.

Talking at the company’s earnings call on Wednesday, Musk said that the would be publishing a post of his own regarding conditions at the Fremont factory and whether the employees there really wanted to unionize. Musk said that the post will be the result of his own investigation into claims that Tesla employees at the factory wanted to unionize. Before publishing the post though, Musk had some insights to share at the earnings call.

Musk said that his investigations revealed that Tesla factories saw almost half the accident risk as compared to the rest of the automotive industry. He also called attention to the fact that Tesla’s employees were some of the highest paid in the industry, adding in the monies received from equity as well. As for unionizing, Musk said:

There are really only disadvantages to saying that someone wants the UAW here.

He finally concluded by stating that he believed that the author of the medium post that started this whole discussion was working for the UAW and wasn’t really attempting to do what was the best for his fellow employees. He concluded by saying that he does not believe that his employees will unionize as there was no incentive for the same.
