Food discovery platform, Zomato recently welcomed Samir Kuckreja to join company’s top management team. This is not the first time, Samir will be serving Zomato, the latter acted as a consultant on several occasions for the food tech firm.
For those unaware, Zomato Base was introduced in April 2016 as a cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) system for their partner cafes and restaurants. The service is built upon Zomato’s MaplePOS acquisition. Maple POS is a functional Android-based POS system that uses custom hardware for a more reliable and customizable product experience. It offers restaurants features such as menu and inventory management and has a built-in payment solution to accept debit and credit card payments.
Prior to joining Zomato, Kuckreja has served New Delhi’s leading QSR chain Nirula’s Corner House and Mars Hotels & Restaurant as CEO. He is completely well-versed with products such as restaurant booking and has taken up several advisory roles while managing his hospitality consulting venture Tasanaya Hospitality.
On Kuckreja’s appointment, one of the Zomato’s executive commented,
Prior to joining Zomato, full-time this month, Samir has worked with us in the capacity of a consultant and already understands the business fairly well, We are excited to have him on board and look forward to learning from and leveraging his unique experience in helping develop the restaurant industry ecosystem in India.
However, Kuckreja left the president’s chair for the National Restaurant Association of India in 2015, he still remains a key trustee in the association.
Moreover, Zomato is planning to pick up fresh investments to further expand its food ordering, table booking business, along with speculations of setting up a new cloud kitchen service. These rumors were confirmed by founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal himself, who mentioned that the food-tech behemoth is working on a couple new initiatives. These are a part of their plan to turn around the financials and boost revenue plus profitability of the company. Kuckreja will further strengthen the team and lead them towards the key goals.
