Lenovo picked up Motorola to become one of the largest smartphone manufacturers around. And that folks, is thanks in no small part to the Moto E, G and M series of devices. The phones are durable, value-for-money, and often receive priority updates from Google. Which is part of why we have waiting desperately for the upcoming fifth gen Moto G devices. Well, they are finally here.
Not officially though. Apparently, someone at e-tailer Ktronix messed up and prematurely posted the devices on the platform. They have since then been pulled down but thanks to the amazing thing we know as the Internet, Moto G and G5 Plus are here to stay.

So here is what we know: The upcoming devices are smaller than their predecessors. While the Moto G4 and G4 Plus are 5.5-inch handsets, both the G5 and the G5 Plus are smaller. The former measures at an even 5.0 inches while its Plus version is pegged at 5.2 inches. As compensation, both the devices will have higher pixel densities — since the same resolution is stuffed in smaller screens — which would lead to improved displays.
Taking a look under the hood, will give you a pleasant surprise. The 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processors that were deployed in the Moto lineup last year has been replaced with the improved, 2.0 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 (G5 Plus) and 1.4 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 430 (G5). Both the devices pack 2 GB of RAM and while the G5 has 32 GB of internal storage, the Plus model will let you save 64 GB worth of data. That is of course, in addition to the micro-SD card slot that can allow expansion by a further 128 GB.
Battery wise, the G5 Plus has the same 3,000 mAh battery from last year, while the regular G5 will bear a slight reduction and will pack a 2,800 mAh one. Rear cameras are the only other point of differentiation between the two with the G5 packing a 13-megapixel phase-detect autofocus sensor as opposed to a 12-megapixel, dual autofocus one on the Plus. Both the devices have the same, 5 MP front snapper.
All in all, a couple of decent mid-range device probably worth buying. Lenovo was planning to launch them at the MWC in Barcelona, so that is when we will learn more about the price tags associated with the devices and pass the final judgment. The Moto series has always been one dependable lineup of phones, lets hope the trend continues.
