Nokia, the iconic mobile brand which dominated the mobile phone market of India a few years back, is reportedly making its re-entry in the country. The company, which has already launched its devices in China, could launch in India around April this year.

The company shut down its operations three years back after selling its mobile business to Microsoft. However, Nokia is now all-set to make a comeback in 2017, thanks to its licensing deal with HMD Global. The brand still has the loyal following of its users, and thus, is expected to make a strong comeback in India.

Rajeev Suri, the Chief Executive Officer of Nokia will be present at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona. Several reports suggest that he’ll be sharing the company’s go-to-market strategy and unveil minimum three Android-based smartphones along with pricing and availability details.

The company is expected to make its India debut with its Nokia 6 smartphone. It comes with a 5.5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 2.5D curved display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Under the hood, the device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor along with Adreno 505 GPU. It is backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. There is a fingerprint scanner embedded in its home button as well.

On the camera front, it features a 16-megapixel camera with PDAF, 1.0um sensor, f/2.0 aperture, and dual-tone LED flash. At the front, it has an 8-megapixel camera with a 1.12um sensor and f/2.0 aperture. The Nokia 6 runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS and is powered by a 3000 mAh non-removable battery.

Looking at the specs, we are expecting the phone to be priced at less than Rs. 16,000 in India. If it falls under the sub-16k category, it will be a tough competitor to the likes of Xiaomi and Coolpad.

Also, as per the report from NokiaPowerUser, the Nokia 6 global variant with the model number TA-1003 has been certified in Taiwan. The same model number was recently spotted on a Bluetooth certification site and GFXBench as well.

Further, it is also expected that the company will be rolling out its devices in the offline market and will not limit itself to online presence. While there is no concrete information available regarding phone manufacturing in India, we are certain that it will happen – just not sure when.
