Elon Musk, Tesla

We aren’t boasting when we call Elon Musk a legendary innovator of our times. The man’s eccentric about achieving his ambitious goals, be it stepping foot on Mars, making us a multi-planetary species or deciding to bore tunnels to get out of traffic jams. Yes, you’re not dreaming. Elon Musk has seriously decided to bore tunnels and he is not kidding for sure.

Today, he has shared an update on the progress of his playfully named tunnel company ‘The Boring Company’ via Twitter. And it looks like we’ll begin seeing some boring machines and tunnels within a month or so. Musk, in the tweet, mentioned that he plans to start digging the tunnels in the coming days.

Interestingly, the conversation on Twitter then moved to the location of the very first underground tunnel. And Musk promptly answered that he’ll start boring the tunnel from right across his desk at the SpaceX headquarters. And this tunnel will most likely connect the traffic from the 105 Freeway (just outside SpaceX HQ located at Rocket Road, Hawthorne, California) to Crenshaw, about 7+ miles in distance.

The idea of boring tunnels to funnel individuals during a traffic jam came to Elon Musk when he himself was stuck in one in December. He then anxiously started tweeting out his thoughts of starting a new company to build tunnels. It might have seemed like a joke to most during that time but Musk has then also tweeted that he was actually going to do it. He had even added Tunnels to his Twitter profile’s bio, which is a major indicator of his commitment to the project.
