The two wheeled self-balancing electric vehicle manufacturer Segway is advancing perfectly towards its plan of enhancing its robotics potential. Only last year at CES, the company released a two-wheeled robot. And now, they have followed it up with its developer edition, calling it the Loomo robot. Capable of tackling last-mile transportation, self-balancing scooting and addressing its hosts, it is a combination of a domestic bot and a Segway vehicle.

Loomo is equiped with Intel RealSence depth sensor, nevigation tools and high-end cameras for analysing the environment. It is also furnished with speakers for two-way communication, series of microphone for the voice inputs and assorted connection technologies which enhance its autonomous and self balancing capabilities.

Earlier this April, at Intel’s Developer Forum in Shenzhen , Segway announced for for applications to its Developer Programe and recieved a huge pool of aplicants, numbering in thousands, in response. The initial department partners of the Segway Robotics teem has been selected from this pool itself. A way would be provided to its partners by which they would also be able to add hardware accessories.

The partners would start receiving the Developer kits early this year and BMW, Intel, MIT Smart Center and Stibo Accelerator would be the first few to recieve it. These companies have been chosen for the fact that Segway finds them highly elligible to open new doors of opportunities. BMW is already working in the areas of autonomous driving, whereas MIT would utilize Loomo for medical purposes, Stibo Accelerator would ensure customer safety with the bot and Intel would enhance the capabilities of personel robotics.

Meanwhile, multiple companies, essentially automobile makers, have shown a keen interest by proving personal transportation solutions, for the people facing mobility problems. And at the same time, personel and home robotics has also been observed as an area of interest.

Therefore, the advent of a bot which is capable of fulfilling both these needs could be a remarkable acchivement. And concidering the potential of Segway’s Developer Partners, the list of Loomo’s abilities would be interesting to watch.
