Any Pokemon Go fans in the house? We have an extremely delightful news for all of you. The widely popular augmented reality (AR) game that we’re talking about is making its official India debut tomorrow. Yes, you’d no longer require to download the pirated apk from the interwebs but download the same from the Play Store. (woo-hoo!!)
About five months post the official launch, Niantic is finally releasing the most awaited game of the year in India. This launch has been made possible due to a partnership between the game studio and the fastest growing 4G LTE carrier in the country – Reliance Jio. This move from Mukesh Ambani’s company will be commended by users across the country. It will enable Jio to make further strengthen their growing share in the smartphone market.
Commenting on the partnership, John Hanke, CEO and founder of Niantic, says,
We are delighted to partner with Jio to launch Pokemon GO in India. It’s exciting to see Pokemon fans in India step out and explore their neighbourhoods in search of Pokemon and Jio’s disruptive high speed 4G LTE Network will be an excellent way to experience the game.
For those unaware, Pokemon Go has just recently started announcing official Pokestop and Gym partners – kicking off the same with Sprint and Starbucks. And now we can count the 50 million users strong network as the latest sponsor for this phenomenal game. Starting December 14, all Reliance stores will appear as ‘Pokestops’ or ‘Gyms’ in the game. Also, the company is opening a special channel related to Pokemon Go on Jio chat app to enable players to trade tips, secrets and the probable location of a rare Pokemon.
“You can also get the tutuapp android app which will allow you to easily fly to different locations without having to actually move from your location. It’s as easy as just downloading Pokemon Go from this app and start entering different coordinates and you will be good to go.”
Mathew Oommen, President at Reliance Jio also shares his excitement for this unexpected (yet necessary) partnership:
With over 500 million downloads globally, we are excited to launch Pokémon GO officially in India on the Reliance Jio network. Our partnership with Niantic not only brings access to the Pokémon GO app but also opens the door to more opportunities for our customers to enjoy content on Jio’s one-of-a-kind mobile broadband network.
With unexpected surprises like these, Niantic Labs is planning to invigorate the mass populace to yet again get off their couches and stroll around looking for Pokemons. It has, thus, fixed the pocket monster tracker ‘Nearby’ and has started introducing new 2nd generation Pokemons starting with Pichu, Togepi and others. A planned December update will introduce the complete range of over 100 new Pokemons to the game. (fingers crossed)
