California’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has now published a list of companies which can carry out self-driving tests on state’s roads. And while there are the usual names in that list, the newest entrant to the same, is graphic card maker Nvidia.

Interestingly, Nvidia is also behind manufacturing certain processing units for use in autonomous driving. These processors also include some, which are capable of using deep learning to power up their systems. Clearly, Nvidia has now decided to use its own tech to build and test its own cars.

Despite of the fact, that Nvidia has contracts with a lot of the companies in the list, including ones like Tesla, to supply them with its autonomous car processing units, the company had made its intentions clear when it released a Youtube video, demonstrating the capabilities of its AI driven self-driving car, the Nvidia BB8.

The BB8, as is seen in the video, has been tested in California already. The new license will help the company even further do road tests in high traffic conditions, thus allowing it to develop an even smarter system. The new, advanced self-driving system will only add, to the list top-tier tech Nvidia provides in the auto-tech sector, designing everything from a digital cockpit(Drive CX) for high-end cars to smart, in-car systems.
