Who doesn’t want to enjoy a good (and brand new) movie from the comfort of their homes? Yeah, I know, we all do. Thus, Apple is currently engaged in talks with numerous Hollywood film studios to grant them rights for early access to their movies. This will enable Cupertino to further bolster its iTunes business by expanding the scope of its offerings, reports Bloomberg.
According to sources aware of ongoing private discussions, Warner Bros., 21st Century Fox, and Universal Pictures are currently in search of partners to help them distribute newly released movie titles to the masses a mere “two weeks after their theatrical debut.” The production houses are currently considering Apple’s iTunes as one of the prominent technology options but nothing is finalized as of now.
Also, this partnership will enable users to enjoy newly released movies from the comfort of their beds, couches or anywhere they prefer. This experience will, thus, come at a much higher cost than the usual amount you’re expected to spend at a movie screening. The studios themselves are looking to dispense these home rental services at a premium (and they definitely will, to bring the latest content to your homes in almost negligible time). The rentals could be priced as much as 50 dollars, says sources.
The movie studios are planning to venture out from the traditional means of showcasing movies in theaters and then releasing a DVD box set ninety days after the movie first hit the theaters. They’re under pressure to fill seats and at least regain the capital they’ve invested in production. And Apple is looking for even more means to bulk up its iTunes services (very much like the exclusive access to music albums on Apple Music). Thus, adding an exclusive access to recently released movie titles to its arsenal would only make the package more attractive for users. This would create another active pull for Apple to add users to its services.
