Xiaomi has finally launched its latest fitness tracker, the Mi Band 2 in the country, for a price of Rs. 1,999. It was first launched in the month of June this year, in China. The device was announced alongside the Mi Air Purifier 2 in India.
The Mi Band 2 will now go on sale via Mi.com from September 27. Later on, it will be available via Amazon India from September 30. It is a successor of the original Mi Band, which was launched in April 2015 at Rs. 999.
The new Mi Band 2 fitness tracker comes with a lot of improvements over its predecessor. Though quipped with an OLED display, the band still manages to deliver an excellent battery life of 20 days on a single charge. As per Xiaomi, the battery life of the device is up to four times longer than contemporary fitness trackers from other companies. This is certainly an improvement over the first generation Mi Band, which had no display and offered a battery life of up to 30 days.
The OLED display lights up to show the time with a lift of the wrist and tapping the button lets users view other information like steps taken and heart rate. Along with a lightweight and slim design, the company has also integrated the band with IP67 splash-resistance.
The Mi Band 2 comes with a hypoallergenic silicone band, meaning it can be worn almost all the time, making it useful for both workouts and sleep tracking. It also comes with a functionality through which, users can unlock their Android smartphones instantly with Mi Band 2, by simply taking it close to the device. Yes, Xiaomi appears to have taken a leaf out of Apple’s book.
The Band also vibrates to alert users about incoming calls, alarms, and notifications.
Mi Band 2 is compatible with the Mi Fit application, which is available on Android and iOS. Apart from showing activity and sleep statistics, the app will also provide you with reminders to move after sitting for too long. Overall, a good value for money. With a brand name like Xiaomi and a host of smartwatch like features, the Mi band 2 promises to be a good value for money product.
