As technology is evolving, so is the consumers’ need. And Intel is a company that places this fact above all. The silicon giant believes that the modern-day consumer is now demanding an “immersive” experience from the internet — smartly calling it ‘immersive internet’.

To quench this need, the company has today announced the launch of its 7th generation Intel Core processor family which supports this concept through 4K Ultra HD, 360-degree video and high-resolution video streaming.

This concept is the brainchild of Karen Regis, director of mobile platform marketing at Intel, who believes that consumers are now craving for a more immersive experience — video viewing, virtual reality, gaming, e-sports and the like. While that’s something we can agree with, the solution requires our computers to adapt to these needs as well.

The best way the tech giant sees this done is by upgrading its super-chips. In short, Intel has now built chips powerful enough to render 4K UHD video without a problem.

The chips, codenamed “Kaby Lake,” are based on the architecture of the Skylake processors(the name might’ve given that away). These processors are built on the 14 nm architecture and are supported by a new media engine which is equipped with new HEVC 10-bit decode capabilities for better playback of media content up to 4K UHD and new VP9 decode features for improved 4K UHD,4K 360-degree playback while multitasking.

The chips are also far more power efficient than any of Intel’s older processors. While the first generation Intel processors were built to consume 18 watts of power, the new seventh gen. processors just need 4.5 watts of juice. According to Intel, the processors will also allow users to enjoy UHD video up to 9.5 hours without an interruption.

The architecture will also hit all of Intel’s mainstream families including Intel Core m3, Core i5 and i7 processors. Not just this, the systems will come with Intel HD Graphics, Turbo Boost and Speed Shift capabilities, alongside improved photo and video editing, multiple video streams and high-resolution video chat built-in.

Just in the next month, the company is expecting around a hundred devices to start shipping with the newly designed processors onboard. These systems will come with all sorts of specifications at different price points. By the end of this year, the chipmaker is hoping for the market to get more than 350 new designs based on the seventh-generation processors.
