Budget hotel aggregator Oyo Rooms has today announced that it has signed an agreement with Travelport, whereby the company’s network of 6,000 properties will now be made available to travel agency users through Travelport’s travel commerce platform. Oyo is currently operational in over 180 Indian cities including Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bangalore and Goa.

Oyo says, that it has inked the deal with Travelport in response to the regular pleas of its agents to add hotel content they need in their local regions. Travelport also provides hoteliers access to a much larger international travel booking industry, including users from India and around the world.

They believe that using Travelport’s travel commerce platform, the travel agents globally will have access to the hotel content added on the platform through their normal workflow. Thus, ultimately reducing the inefficiency and time spent in booking hotels across different channels.

Commenting on the partnership, Kavikrut, Chief Growth Officer, Oyo Rooms adds that,

We are pleased to partner with Travelport and take our offerings to a wider audience. Both OYO and Travelport are recognised for leveraging innovative technology capabilities. We are confident in utilising this synergy to unlock new growth areas for both partners.

HQ-ed in Langley, Travelport’s trusted platform facilitates travel commerce by connecting world’s leading travel providers(now also Oyo) with online and offline travel buyers in a proprietary business-to-business(B2B) travel marketplace. It also adds to the global tourism industry by providing distribution, technology, payment, mobile and other solutions to its partners.

With a presence in approximately 180 countries, it connects hotel aggregators and independent properties to over 68,000 agencies worldwide. It now offers 650,000 unique hotel choices to the travellers, and is able to bank over $2.2 million in revenues.

We are pleased to welcome OYO to Travelport. This is an exciting partnership and one that forms part of our ongoing strategy to extend our hotel offering.

Our industry-leading connectivity enables us to directly acquire specific hotel content, as well as requested local hotel chains and individual properties, and we are looking forward to continuing to expand our offering in this area throughout the year.

says Niklas Andreen, SVP of Hospitality at Travelport.

This deal could not only increase sales and open doors to new opportunities for Oyo Rooms, but attract more attention to the overall tourism industry in India. Recently, Oyo had also introduced a marketplace — Oyo Bazaar — to procure daily supplies for partner hotels. And if sources are to be believed, the hotel aggregator is also planning to add a fresh round of funds worth Rs 413 crore through a proposed right issue of shares to existing shareholders
