Being an enthusiastic gamer, I often like to take to my PlayStation 3 and kill a few zombies or drive a few laps. Today however, I wasn’t able to sign into the service, making me quite disappointed. The first thing I did next was check my social media for any reports about the server being down. Guess, I wasn’t the only one having trouble with the gaming service.

Social media is in fact brimming with reports (via VentureBeat) from PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 owners about difficulty signing into the service. This, essentially, means most users are not able to launch their games and some media apps. This not just undermines the multiplayer games but also prevents users to play games that require a constant network connection.

Sony had previously announced that it had scheduled a maintenance on PlayStation Network for next week. The networks going dark so soon, though is something of a shock to most. The official PSN status site has not updated to show the down time.

As of now, we don’t know the reason for the outage, nor do we know how long it will last. But judging from past experience, the down could persist for hours or even days.

We’ll keep you updated about the status of PSN, so stay tuned!
