Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra Group has invested in SheThePeople.TV, a digital storytelling platform for women, in a seed funding round. He has invested in his personal capacity.
The platform is aimed at building a digital media space and ecosystem for women achievers, and is dedicated to championing and promoting their success stories.
With the funding received in this round, the company will be able to further expand its platform and launch new initiatives that includes forums, events and regional language support along with others.
The startup was founded in November 2012. Since its inception, the platform has profiled stories of nearly 10,000 inspiring women, who are entrepreneurs, authors, game-changers, sportswomen, corporate executives among others.
It is a video story telling space that inspires women, strengthens their efforts, exchanges leadership ideas, fosters networking and reinforces their ability to contribute to growth.
It was also an official partner for the Union government’s prime program for entrepreneurs “Start-Up India, Stand Up India” in January this year and for the start-up initiative at Make in India Week in February.
Currently, the platform is offering stories in two languages – English and Hindi. Also, the majority of the content on the platform is video content.
Anand Mahindra has been investing in several startups his personal capacity. Last year, he had invested an undisclosed amount in Delhi-based LocalCircles.com, a community-based social network. He has also invested in DishCo, a platform to book restaurant tables and discover signature dishes.
Anand Mahindra, who invested in the startups, said,
Women need a space that quenches their intellectual hunger, engages and empowers them with relatable content. With Shaili as founder, possessing a solid understanding of both conventional and digital media over 15 years, I have great confidence that SheThePeople.TV will become a focal point of inspiration for tomorrow’s women leaders.
