Product Hunt, the hugely popular-among-folks-like-us service that allows you to keep track of the latest in technology and hunt down something you need, on Thursday announced a new desktop app on Mac. The app is very similar to its mobile app with a few tweaks for enhanced usage on a desktop.

The app is an excellent addition to the slew of services by Product Hunt. It makes it extremely easy to enjoy the benefits of the platform. May it be finding a product you need or just keeping yourself up-to-date about the latest and greatest, Product Hunt does it all and the new app makes all this much more efficient, but that’s totally down to personal opinion.

After the app has been downloaded and installed successful, it will run in the background and appear as ‘P’ icon on your menu bar. You can click on this icon to view the day’s most upvoted products, games, podcasts and books on the platform.

The app is super simple, delivering popular products, games, books, and podcasts from your menu bar (see settings to control the firehose ?). A subtle notification counter increments when new things are trending, surfacing posts at the top of the feed with a red dot,

This isn’t the first Product Hunt Mac app — several people in the community have created different variations which is part of the inspiration for open sourcing the app so others can improve it with us. It’s on GitHub.

The app is now available for download on the Mac Store and you can even download its source code from GitHub to make improvements into the software if you’re up for that.
