Adding up to a slew of local marketplace fundings in recent time, another online local services platform UrbanPro, has now grabbed a $2 Million Series A round of funding from Nirvana Venture Advisors.

UrbanPro, which was founded in 2012 and recently re-name itself from ThinkVidya to its current form, claims to have over 300K professionals registered on its network. It also claims to have served over 500K consumers in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, and the National Capital Region in the education segment. It had previously raised angel funding in January 2014.

Talking on the recent funding, Rakesh Kalra, founder and CEO of UrbanPro said,

It was always at the back of our mind to expand to other verticals. Focusing on one segment helped us gain a lot of traction until our platform was ready.

As for its plans with the current capital, UrbanPro is now planning to expand across several new verticals, including health and fitness, event services, and photography. As of now, UrbanPro is involved in providing services in the education segment, like providing tuitions, exam preparation and language learning.

To hire a professional, you simply need to log on to UrbanPro and post your requirement. Upon posting, you will almost instantaneously start receiving applications for your requirement from professionals. One you receive applications, you simply screen them and hire them on the go. UrbanPro is also available for your smartphones via Google’s Play Store.

Startups offering platforms for hiring professionals have been attracting investor interest for quite some time now. Similar startups in the domain, include UrbanClap and Qyk which also raised significant capital to expand presence across other Indian cities.
