12 inch MacBook, has hit the production lines, Digitimes reported. The production, though is in small volumes, and the new MacBook air may not hit the shelves in time for Christmas.

As per the report, Taiwan-based ODM Quanta Computer has started the production of 12-inch MacBook Air in small volumes in October. The production is planned to increase gradually by November.

The report has also said that the 12 inch MacBook’s components haven’t yet reached a satisfactory yield rate, and hence Apple suppliers like Quanta and others, are trying to hike the yield rates to reach desired results.

As per sources at Digitimes, the main hinderance in 12 inch MacBook’s production is the slimness factor. The upcoming MacBook is even slimmer than the existing 11.6- and 13.3-inch MacBook Air models, posing challenge to component makers’ technological capability.

Another big revealation, which the report said, is that the 12 inch MacBook may come with a Retina Touchscreen.
