Luxury watch makers have suddenly started to take the smartwatch business pretty seriously now. After Swiss watchmaker Swatch’s plans of a smartwatch, another Swiss manufacturer, Tag Heuer is planning to launch its own, a Swiss newspaper reported.

French luxury group LVMH’s watch brand TAG Heuer has plans to launch its own smartwatch, as per its watch business’s head, Jean-Claude Biver. Biver, while talking to a Swiss Sunday newspaper NZZ am Sonntag, said

We want to launch a smartwatch at TAG Heuer, but it must not copy the Apple Watch. We cannot afford to just follow in somebody else’s footsteps

Switzerland’s luxury wrist watch market has suddenly started to face stiff competition from smartwatches by various vendors. And now, with Apple launching its Apple Watch, Swiss watchmakers are finding themselves in some serious trouble.

Biver further added that various Swiss watch manufacturers are planning to unveil their smartwatches at the latest Basel watch fair next spring. No other official details were revealed during the interview.
