Microsoft has just announced the finalists of its ongoing, Microsoft Imagine Cup 2014, as per a report on TechCrunch. This year’s finals will be held in Seattle, Microsoft’s own city, with Satya Nadella being a VIP judge.

Imagine cup has grown into a major competition in software industry and has evolved a lot in its 11 years of existence. The Imagine Cup began in 2003 with approximately 1,000 competitors from 25 countries and regions and has grown to more than 358,000 competitors representing 183 countries and regions in 2011.

Last year’s finals were held in St. Petersburg in Russia, largely depicting Asia, as the new epicentre of technological innovations in the world.

Indian team, Seven Summits has made it to the final 35 of the Imagine Cup. The team will be travelling all the way to Seattle, to participate in the World finals.

In the recently concluded India finals, Team Seven Summits had been declared India winners in the gaming category, for their project named “Petite”. Other teams, who won the India finals but couldn’t make it to the world finals were Team Dexters and Team Untraceable0208.

This year, apart from the USD 50,000 prize, Microsoft will continue to work with these groups to help them develop their projects. The most innovative project, for example, will be automatically accepted into one of Microsoft Ventures’ accelerator programs.

The winner of the gaming category will be invited to PAX Dev and PAX Prime events in Seattle. They will represent their game in these events. Winner of the World Citizenship challenge will get a return trip to Seattle.
