All Manufacturers whether they are cars or smartphones have to come up with new ideas every now and then. Whether or not there’s anything new , they just have to launch a new product. So when Samsung unveiled its new flagship smartphone the Galaxy S5 , people were not really surprised by its new features as it is not really different from it’s last year’s model.
Hardware
It is pretty easier nowdays to identify a Galaxy phone. The S5 is not so different as well. It looks almost exactly the same as the Galaxy S4 apart from the simple dots of texture at the back. It is not as classy as metal or glass of the iphone or htc One M8.
The 5.1-inch screen might be big for some people but once you get used to it , you will find it difficult to use other smaller phones and if you are not used to it Samsung have another feature called “One handed operation” which shrinks the screen so that you an reach all of it by a thumb.
Samsung Galaxy S5 is a waterproof smartphone. It can remain underwater for 30 minutes at a height of 3 feet. And more importantly the weight of the phone is not much affected by this , but there is a plastic plug which covers the charging jack.
Another feature of The S5 is the finger print sensor. Samsung like Apple has also turned the home button into a fingerprint reader. The only difference being is in iPhone you have to place your finger on the home button but in the S5 you have to Swipe your finger across the home button and Samsung can remember upto three fingers only while five can be learned in the iPhone. In the S5 you can make the PayPal Purchases just by swipe of your finger and without entering name and password.
The other hardware feature is heartbeat sensor on the back just below the camera lens. You have to remain calm and still for about 10 seconds and then the reading is shown in bpm. It might not have been trustworthy in some cases. But this is surely not the feature all people were waiting for.
Software
Samsung has done nothing exciting at all in the case of Hardware. Now lets see how the software side goes. Unlike the S4 there are not much Samsung’s junk apps instead they have created a special app store where you can download all of them.
Now Samsung has provided search option in the settings menu which let you to search apps or any other settings which makes work easier.
Another S5 feature is the “Ultra Power Saving Mode”. It will slow down all the cellular data, background apps, and even brightness and colors. All you can use is your phone , text messages , type notes and record audio. The main lock screen , menu screen disappears and a single monochrome screen with some icons. You can use the Data only while using browser or in some Samsung apps.
Their is also a private mode which lets you hide some of your photos , videos , music tracks , etc. You can access it with a swipe of your finger or by entering passcode. Kids Mode is a feature through which children can play some of their games while all other things are locked down and safe.
Camera
Camera is the only face-saver for Galaxy S5. Samsung has not disappointed in terms of camera. It is the basic need of a smartphone. But you can pin upto only three out of 24 settings icon in the main menu. Photos taken by the S5 are really impressive especially at good light conditions. It focuses much faster now.
Samsung claims that it has inherited phase detection focusing , the same technology that is used in professional SLR cameras. S5’s video quality is equally good. 4K videos are very clear but only issue users will face is the big size of videos.
