For years, Apple has created one of the most secure operating systems in the industry. It is their trademark, and the modern version of iOS has always been released with improved security. With the release of Snow Cone, Apple may finally have a worthy competitor.

Android

Despite the yearly Android release cycle, IT support Sydney has maintained the experience necessary to deal with common Android-related issues. Since Android is based on the Linux kernel, it inherited a bit of security history.

Linux is considered the most secure OS in the industry, with its many iterations showing a superior security background to competitors like Apple. However, Android is a different beast altogether and its many iterations are branded proprietary versions. Samsung’s version of Android may be more secure than Xiaomi. And Google’s version of Android may receive more security updates than Motorola.

On its own, Android is about as secure as any modern mobile operating system. But things get a bit complex when you add in the various releases.

iOS

What was originally known as iPhone OS has morphed into an incredible base for the most advanced devices in the world. The system so rocks solid that modern versions of their devices have graduated from iOS to watchOS, tvOS, and iPadOS. All of these operating systems were built off of the years of maturity formed by iOS.

Apple goes a step further than Android when it comes to security. They have checks built in for privacy and maintain much tighter control over which apps are allowed on their store. This closed-off proprietary system is so strict that lost Apple devices are considered instant paperweights, even in the hands of a skilled hacker.

Modern versions of iOS have married hardware biometrics to superior software to further stabilize their security. Overall, the only mobile OS that comes close to Apple’s security is the now-defunct Blackberry OS.

Pros

Android will always have the highest configurability since it is an open-ended system. Most Android smartphones ship with antivirus for free, with the option to further improve security with pushed updates. The only downside to an Android smartphone is that important security updates will be completely up to the brand of your phone. Android’s Tiramisu may be able to uncomplicate things for consumers but still has no release date.

An iOS system has the strongest security, even when you go back to old versions that don’t get updates. Their optimization is top-notch for both the hardware and software, and there is no requirement for an antivirus. Safari is still light years ahead of Chrome when it comes to security, and the only comparable Android browser comes in the form of a third-party app. But with Apple maintaining strict control over its devices, users either have to accept it as-is or force a risky jailbreak that compromises their smartphones.

A Walled Garden is More Secure

An iOS system will always be the most secure phone for the average consumer. Its restrictive ecosystem is legendary if you’re willing to give up some personal control. If Tiramisu fulfills its promises, there is a chance that Android will be the king of both security and user-friendliness.
