Tesla will be debuting their new SUV, Model Y, on March 14 at an LA event. The announcement was made by CEO Elon Musk on Twitter.
The Model Y is designed and priced as part of the Model 3 program, which intends to bring out more affordable electric cars. The Tesla Model Y will be an SUV crossover from the Model 3 and will feature 75% of its parts. Since the company launched in 2003, this would be it’s fifth design.
“Model Y, being an SUV, is about 10% bigger than Model 3, so will cost about 10% more & have slightly less range for same battery,” Musk tweeted. The Tesla Model Y will not feature the falcon-wing doors in an effort to reduce costs.
THe company were also in the works of releasing their pickup truck designed for more efficient goods transportation but Mush clarified that the truck would be unveiled at a seperate event later in the year.
More pricing and specs about the Model Y will be unveiled at the March 14 event, Musk tweeted.
