OnePlus’ next flagship smartphone, OnePlus 5, is arriving this summer and it sure has us waiting. The Chinese company has constantly upped its ante with every smartphone it releases. It recently confirmed the device name just a few weeks ago, and now it is collaborating with DxO to “enhance your photography experience with their upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 5.” OnePlus is quoted stating,

We’re happy to announce that we have teamed up with DxO to enhance your photography experience with our upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 5. DxO is perhaps most well-known for creating the defining photography benchmark, the DxOMark. They’ve got years of imaging experience and expertise, both for professional cameras and for smartphones.

Though DxO specializes in photography software and mobile camera accessories, it’s widely renowned for DxOMark, a reference guide, which reviews and ranks cameras, lenses and smartphone cameras. It had rendered the recently-released HTC U 11 a rating of 90 on a scale of 100 for the camera quality, which is the highest rating it has ever given to a smartphone.

DxO image scientists, engineers, and product managers are thoroughly trained to deliver high-level consulting services at all stages of the camera development, from initial specifications to camera tuning. It has not been revealed what kind of strategy DxO and OnePlus will undertake to enhance the camera quality. But, as per the recent leaks, OnePlus 5 will feature dual 12-megapixel rear-camera. Also, it’s not known if the lenses will be of different focal lengths, but the direct collaboration with DxO is expected to bring an overall brilliant photography experience. Etienne Knauer, Senior VP of Sales & Marketing at DxO, said,

OnePlus has always been one of the leading innovators in the smartphone industry. We are proud to partner with them and support their exciting mobile photography strategy.

One worth noting fact is the company has christened the name of the upcoming device as OnePlus 5, skipping the number 4 for its device (seeing the previous lineups, OnePlus 1, OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3). The reason that company has given behind this is that the number four is considered unlucky in China, as it sounds similar to the word for death in Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages.

The newly leaked images by PriceRaja show that the vertical rear-camera setup will be equipped with a dual LED flash in between them. Also, the images depict that OnePlus is following Apple’s footsteps and is putting the 3.5mm headphone jack away. It is seen being charged through USB Type-C, in addition, it is expected to be the costliest OnePlus device till date.

The OnePlus 5 is expected to run Oneplus’ OxygenOS mobile operating system based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. With an internal memory of 64 GB and 6GB RAM, reports suggest it will carry a Full HD (1920 x 1080) display panel, with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip containing an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 540 graphics chip.
