Google seems to be highly impressed by Pinterest’s image searching options and motivated by that, the company has launched a “Similar Items” feature for Android and mobile web users in order to drag their attention towards other products they may like to purchase — such as shoes, handbags and sunglasses. Now, this feature is being incorporated with apparels as well.

More importantly, a new feature by the name of  “Style Ideas,” is also being introduced specifically to give lifestyle tips regarding the outfits by showing images of the fashion products you ave been browsing.

That does sound a lot similar to one of Pinterest’s features. Pinerest has spent years trying to evolve as the adobe of “inspirational” imagery, by constantly including fashion products which are a best fit for the purchased products. It is also working on the visual search technology which identifies distinct products within an image, along with  a person’s camera viewfinder, which provides information regarding the purchase of similar products by simply pointing your camera towards it.

The ultimate aim is to attract the users who prefer investigating products on search engines like Google or sites like Pinterest. Pinterest is the best place if you are looking for ideas regarding what should be paired with a particular apparels, and as the website links you to the vendor as well, the user is often able to make a purchase without needing to resort to Google at all.

This is a very bad news for Google as it is already having a tough time in the era of smartphones where there are more apps and less websites. The new “Style Ideas” feature is the outcome of this concern.

Fro now on, if you are surfing through images of fashion products on Android or the mobile web, company’s Image Search interface will present you the images of the product which provide its better representation in real life. For instance, if you are looking at an image of a hat, you will be provided with another image where a model is wearing it to give you an idea regarding how that hat could be paired, explains Google.

Google also says that for every searched fashion product, the result will include visually similar fashion product. The images featured in “style ideas” are algorithmically selected without any human interference. This feature utilizes Google’s advanced machine learning capabilities to identify the images in feature.

Google has also stated that the products appearing in both  the style ideas and similar items grids are algorithmically ranked and are displayed as per their suitability.
