Lenovo-owned Motorola today announced the official launch date for its much-awaited G-series smartphone — Moto G5 in India. The company has sent out press invites for the launch of the device and it is scheduled for April 4. Unlike its kin Moto G5 Plus, which made its debut exclusively on Flipkart, Moto G5 will be an Amazon exclusive.

The sale of the device will begin on April 5th from 12 midnight itself. The smartphone is basically a smaller variant of Moto G5 Plus with minor differences here and there and hence is cheaper than the latter. While the Moto G5 comes with only 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, the Moto G5 Plus has two options — 2GB/32GB variant along with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage model. There is also a microSD card slot, allowing you to expand storage up to 128GB.

The Moto G5 comes with a 5-inch Full HD display with screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor, clocked at 1.4GHz. The device runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, with company’s own custom flavor on top. You also get Moto Display for notifications and the same gestures as other Moto phones.

As for the camera, there is a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It also supports 4G LTE connectivity, along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. The smartphone is powered by a 2800mAh removable battery and supports rapid charging. The smartphone will be available in Fine Gold and Lunar Gray colors in India.

The phone was officially unveiled at MWC 2017 and is among the top-notch smartphones for Motorola. It is presumed that the phone will cost cheaper than the Plus variant, which comes under the range of Rs. 14k-17k varying on the storage option. The exact price and availability, however, will be known at the April 4 event only.

Prior to it, other phones which were sold through Amazon include Moto G (Gen 3), Moto G Play, Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus, Moto G Turbo Edition, Moto X-Force, Moto Z and Moto Z Play. Speaking of the exclusivity, Sudhin Mathur, Managing Director- Motorola Mobility Pvt. Ltd India said,

We are glad to partner with Amazon.in to launch this device and look forward to helping our customers, have all they need in a smartphone.
