Cisco is on the go to expand its reach in India through investments and strategic partnerships. The networking giant has today further broadened its relationship with the country. It has launched the first ‘Made in India’ router for small and medium businesses (SMBs) to be used across multiple industries. This router costs less than $1500 and is among the popular products of Cisco’s core switching portfolio worldwide.
The router was unveiled in the presence of IT and Electronics Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad at a special event today held by Cisco. The product calls upon the ‘Made in India’ initiative of the Indian Government and sets an example for other international tech behemoths while paving its way in the country.
Congratulating the company on this launch, Ravi Shankar Prasad said,
I would like to compliment the Cisco team that I had requested them to take the initiative of Make in India and today is a great product which will help the internet in office space and other places, which is a clear mark of digitising India.
The company recently launched its manufacturing operations in Pune and intends to serve domains like cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber security among others. Cisco’s Indian dreams also include establishing a Smart City in Nagpur with its next-gen solutions.
According to recent surveys, the internet usage in the country is constantly rising. There are nearly 23 billion connected devices and the number is expected to double to over 50 billion by 2020. Cisco not only gathered praises for tapping the ‘Made in India’ campaign but was applauded for reigning in such a significant sector as well. It’s focused on making a big foray in aforementioned areas and will align its future plans with government’s goals and schemes.
