Google Home

Google Assistant has now gained an interesting new ability. The AI can now read any SMSes you receive right back at you. Whether it is Facebook Messenger, Hangouts Messages, or even your phone’s built-in, native messaging service, Google’s assistant is now ready and willing to save your eyes some strain.

Simply say “Do I have any messages?” or “Show me my last message” and Google Assistant will read out your most recent text messages to you.

And its not limited to just reading either. You can also reply to messages using Google Assistant. The feature is available to Pixel, Pixel XL, and all other Android smartphones that offer support for Google Assistant. If you remember, Google significantly increased the number of devices that support the assistant a week or so ago.

There are a few other requirements though: You must have Android Marshmallow or Nougat on your device (that is a perquisite for Google Assistant) and you must update Google App to version 6.13. The device should also offer 720p or higher resolution, and at least 1.5 GB of free memory.

The move is interesting, considering that both Google and Amazon are rumored to be extending many usual smartphone functions to their respective voice assistants. There were rumors of call, and now messages are already here.
