Google Assistant, till now was only available on Pixel phones, Google Home, Google Allo and Android Wear. Yeah! you read that right- till now. Today, the search giant has made a massive announcement stating ‘Google Assistant is coming to more Android phones.’ It’s a moment to finally get ready to bask in the glory of Google’s advanced AI voice assistance.
Smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat and Android 6.0 Marshmallow will automatically integrate the personal voice assistant within their systems, starting this week. The company disclosed the major update through Google’s official blog saying,
Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes. Enter the Google Assistant, which is conversational, personal and helps you get things done—from telling you about your day to taking a selfie. Now we’re bringing it to even more people. Starting this week, the Google Assistant is coming to smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
With the fresh fuss, Google did put a full-stop on the speculations bothering LG G6 and Google Assistant’s alliance. The company has already partnered with various smartphone manufacturers and as a result, the new Android lineups will come with Google Assistant pre-installed. Apart from LG G6, smartphones from major brands such as HTC, Huawei, Samsung, as well as Sony have received the AI assistance.
The Google Assistant will begin rolling out this week to English users in the U.S., followed by English in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, as well as German speakers in Germany. The company has also promised to extend the language support further over the coming year.
All you need to do is long press the Home button or say “Ok Google” to get started. You can ask multiple questions including travel directions, weather information or can ask for aid with day to day routine tasks. The voice assistant can take care of your connected devices, set alarms for you and can even respond to complex queries. Google has played a triumph card over other AIs available in the market, especially Apple’s Siri.
The company not only infused the assistant in Android Wear 2.0—via new smartwatches, a few weeks ago but also declared plans of Assistant on TVs and cars as well. With hundreds of devices now being controlled by Google Assistant, it may come upon as Google ruling the world!
