Earlier this week, we reported upon how Amazon might be about to curtail support for first and second generation Kindle, with regards to linking through an Amazon account. The reports came after various incidences involving users who were unable to login again after having logged out once.

On being contacted, Amazon said that support for the devices was not cut and that Amazon would continue to support first and second generation Kindles. Apparently, the inability to register through Amazon accounts was due to an issue that was affecting a small number of users and a fix for the same has now been delivered.

As per a company spokesperson:

We have resolved an issue which was impacting a small number of customers who were unable to register early generation Kindle e-readers.  Impacted customers now have the ability to register their devices.

So yes, you can keep on using those devices without any problems at all.
