And suddenly, everyone wants to integrate Alexa to their devices. The latest to join that line is one of the fastest growing smartphone maker globally, Huawei. The company has today announced the launch of its flagship smartphone during the ongoing CES 2017. Dubbed as Huawei Mate 9, the pricing of the phone starts at $599 and will be available through various online retailers.
This is the first flagship smartphone from the company to be launched in the US. The Mate 9 was originally launched a couple of months ago in China. The other special thing about this device is the fact, that Huawei has worked with Amazon to bring Alexa to the phone as a built-in personal assistant. This will be available for US users out of the box and will be available as an OTA for international users also.
The phone’s display is pretty big, featuring a 5.9-inch screen with full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). Under the hood, the device is powered by Huawei’s own high-end mobile processor, Kirin 960. It has eight cores running four ARM Cortex-A73 and four A53 CPUs. It also has ARM Mali G71 GPU.
It packs 4GB of RAM, and runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out of the box. The Android version also comes with Huawei’s new EMUI 5.0 skin which brings a fairly huge overhaul to Huawei’s previous UI.
Just like the originally launched Mate 9, the US version also comes with a dual 20 MP and 12 MP Leica camera system at back, which consists of one standard color sensor and a secondary monochrome sensor, used for sensing depth information and improving low-light performance. There is also an 8 MP front facing camera.
The smartphone is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery, and the company claims that it will last two days before it needs to be charged. Also, the “super charge” feature charges 58 percent battery from zero when plugged in for just 30 minutes.
The Huawei Mate 9 will be available in Space Gray and Moonlight Silver colours. It will be available online from Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, and B&HPhoto for $599 unlocked starting on January 6th.
