Chinese tech giant Lenovo is debuting the Vibe K5 Note, its successor to the previous K4 Note in India today. And Flipkart is the exclusive sale partner of the same. But, what’s even interesting is the pre-launch partnership which the Indian e-commerce giant has struck with Ola.
Flipkart has today announced an exclusive partnership with Ola, to allow users who desire to buy a Vibe K5 Note(or are a Lenovo fanboy), to experience the newly launched smartphone and the accompanying VR headset by booking a cab. Yes, you heard it right, by booking a cab!
Ola is no longer just a coveted mobility service, but is now also adding enhanced consumer experiences to take it to the next level. This first-of-a-kind smartphone campaign through an on-demand cab hailing service has been rolled out in five cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune. Once the customers book an Ola Prime cab through the company’s app, they will be able to unlock a new category called ‘VR-RIDE‘.
Once this category is unlocked, you just have to book an Ola Prime cab and you will get a chance to get a hands-on experience with the Lenovo Vibe K5 Note. And if you’re interested in wearing VR headsets and making a fool out of yourself in the cab, then you can also go ahead and try the AntVR headset as well.
Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Ajay Yadav, VP- Mobiles at Flipkart said,
Taking customer experience to the next level, we have partnered with Ola to offer users, a hands-on experience of the Lenovo K5 Note. As part of the pre-launch, customers who take an Ola Prime ride will be able to request for a device preview at their doorstep.
Raghuvesh Sarup, CMO and Head of Categories, Ola, also commented on this partnership and said,
Ola’s customers will be the first in the country to preview the much awaited Lenovo K5 Note before it becomes available for sale exclusively on Flipkart. Through the specially created VR-RIDE category on the Ola app, customers can experience the smartphone with the same ease as requesting a cab ride.
Speculated Specifications:
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Note is expected to feature a metal unibody design with more rounder edges, as compared to that of the Vibe K4 Note. Some of the key internal specifications include:
- 5.5-inch full HD display, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass(probably 4, not the latest 5)
- MediaTek Helio P10 processor
- Mali-T860MP2 GPU
- 8.5 mm thick and weighs 165gms
- 2 versions(similar to the likes of Xiaomi, LeEco, etc.)
- 2GB RAM+16GB ROM
- 4GB RAM+32GB ROM
- memory card slot, expandable upto 256 GB
- Android Lollipop 5.1(running Vibe UI)
- fingerprint sensor
- 13 MP rear camera, f/2.2 aperture, phase-detection autofocus
- 8 MP front camera
- 3,500 mAh battery
- TheaterMax audio technology
- AntVR support
The Vibe K5 Note smartphone packs a punch, but is very similar in features to other budget Chinese smartphones already available in the market. We’ll have to wait and see how competitively does Lenovo price its new offering, and will it also be coupled with the AntVR headset or not. The phone will be available for sale, starting 4th August, only on Flipkart.
