VMWare, a virtualization and cloud infrastructure company has today announced that it is actively pursuing Arkin, a Pune-based company which provides data center and cloud infrastructure services, for an acquisition to quickly scale their NSX platform.
The amount associated with this acquisition deal has not been disclosed. It is said that the acquisition is expected to get closed by the end of 2nd quarter of this year.
After acquisition, Arkin will join VMware’s Cloud Management Business Unit, a team which is responsible for VMware’s vRealize Management Suite. In total, the company has around 28 employees in Pune and California, and all of them will join VMWare after the acquisition.
Commenting about the acquisition, Shiv Agarwal, co-founder and CEO of Arkin, said,
Arkin and VMware have been great partners and we’re now excited to join the VMware family to take it to the next level. Arkin delivers a new operations paradigm that has been built from the ground up for VMware NSX network virtualization and is fully aligned with the core NSX use cases of IT automation, security and application continuity.
The Arkin platform provides insights into the datacentre traffic flows through its pre-assessment tool that enables faster NSX deployments via micro-segmentation planning. After it is deployed, Arkin lowers time to resolution, leveraging constructs such as time-machine, plain English search and contextual analytics across virtual and physical layers.
Ajay Singh, Senior VP and GM, Management Suites Business Unit, VMware, adds that,
Arkin is a great fit for VMware and its customers as we look to accelerate our growth businesses including cloud management and network virtualisation. With VMware NSX combined with Arkin and vRealize, VMware will deliver the security and operations management plane for SDDC. Over time, Arkin will solidify vRealize Suite’s position as the industry’s most comprehensive cloud management platform that delivers application-focused operations, NSX micro-segmentation at scale and cross-domain visibility and context across physical and logical infrastructure.
Arkin was launched around three years ago by co-founders Shiv Agarwal, Rohit Toshniwal and Mukul Gupta. The company’s advisory board consisted of industry luminaries including Alan Cohen, Dheeraj Pandey and Denis Murphy.
The company was already a NSX partner with VMware since 2015, which is a network visualization platform. The software is reportedly able to operate using any hypervisor and most networking hardware.
Last year, the company had raised $15 Million in its Series B round of funding from Nexus Venture Partners. Prior to that, in November 2014, it had raised $7 Million from Nexus Venture Partners, B.V. Jagadeesh, Alan Cohen and Semil Shah.
Jishnu Bhattacharjee, Managing Director at Nexus Venture Partners, said,
While it is an amazing success for the Arkin team and great return for all investors, we will miss participating in building out the technology platform that is transforming the modus operandi of IT infrastructure. VMware is a great partner for Arkin, since they understand this need and will be able to fully leverage the technology and the work that has been done to date.
