As the day for the release of another flagship killer — OnePlus 3 — draws nearer, the company is gearing up to make the release as memorable as possible. With this launch, anybody with a Loop VR headset can watch the event live and experience the release of the brand new OnePlus smartphone.

But to further its cause and make more users watch the live event, the Chinese smartphone maker has partnered with ride-hailing service Uber to provide the fans a chance to get their hands on the Loop VR headset by booking a cab. If you’re the lucky one, the VR headset will be delivered to your doorstep.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has also used a similar tactic to attract users to the launch event, by giving away 30,000 VR headsets via Amazon. And if you’re unaware of the fact, you don’t even require to wait in line to buy a OnePlus3 this time. It has decided to let go off this trademark selling style and the invite system has been abolished.

The on-demand OnePlus VR headset scheme is being introduced in eight major cities of operation, including New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Bhubaneshwar, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai and Chandigarh.

Commenting on the partnership with Uber, Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India said that,

OnePlus’ fan community is very important to us and we are thankful to them for their continued love and support. As we have received several requests to offer more OnePlus Loop VR Headsets to experience the OnePlus 3 launch in VR, we are partnering with Uber to give our fans a last minute opportunity to get their hands on VR Headsets right at their doorsteps within minutes of booking.

The users need to login into the Uber app tomorrow and book a cab using the promo code ‘ONEPLUS3’ in the promotions tab. Once requested, you might soon receive a VR headset at your doorstep.

This surely is a gimick and a great way to market the newly-launched VR headset but also leads to an increase in the audience numbers for the release which airs live tomorrow night at 10:00 PM IST. The smartphone will then soon be available to order on Amazon starting 12:30 AM IST.

Be sure to return back tomorrow – as The Tech Portal will be covering the OnePlus3 launch event in full-detail.
