Samsung’s last year’s flagship, the Galaxy S6, did good in the market. And although it sold like hot cakes, it still didn’t shift numbers as the tech giant had expected. It’s been one year now and the tech giant is back at trying to impress you. The Korean firm today unveiled the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge.

In what seems to be like one of the most anticipated smartphone release this year, Samsung takes over the CCIB in Barcelona for the Unpacked event of this year. We’ve seen many rumours over the past few weeks about what the Galaxy S7 could’ve been like. Some of these rumours were spot on while others were fairly ambitious. Regardless, now we have a perfectly clear picture of the Galaxy S7 (and its Edge) and it seems to be great, to say the least.

The unveiling was innovative, to say the least. The company planned a VR cause just for this event and saying it was a plain experience would be a lie. The room is reproduced is shown which disappears and shows a tunnel leading to the new flagships from Samsung. These two smartphones must be the world’s first ones to be introduced in a VR presentation.

The Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge themselves are completely made of glass and metal and they come in black, gold, silver and white. The design is more ergonomic, according to the company. The company said they spent three months perfecting the 3D thermoperforming process to bind the glass and metal together. The camera is nearly level with the glass.

The Galaxy S7 comes at 5.1-inches in screen size and the Edge variant has an additional 0.4-inches on it. The phones have also got the new always-on display like the LG G5. The two flagships are also IP68-rated for water resistance just like the rumours said.

And guess what? The SD card slot makes a comeback too! You can add SD XC memory cards up to 200 GB. This will be additional to the phone’s built-in 32 or 64 GB storage.

The camera is also amazing, if we say so ourselves. The cameras on the S7s are optimized not just for daylight use, but for low-light night time use too. The phones have an amazing aperture, greatest ever for Samsung, of f/1.7. The pixels are 30 percent larger than the iPhone 6S Plus. In fact, Samsung goes all the way saying that the cameras work like human eyes. The cameras work on a new technology Samsung likes to call Dual Pixel sensor which allows them super-fast auto focus.

We also get a new camera feature called Motion Panorama which records motion that can later be reviewed as you pan around a recorded panorama.

Coming down to shear processing power, under the hood, the S7 runs the Exynos 8890 Octa along with the Mali-T880 MP12 GPU. This gives the S7 a processing power boost of 30.4 percent on paper along with a graphics rendering improvement of 63.9 percent. The S7 draws its juice from a massive 3000 mAh battery and the Edge takes the bar way up to 3600 mAh. They both run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and have a massive 4 GB of RAM on-chip.

Pre-orders for both these beasts begin in a matter of days, according to the big guys and the smartphones go live on March 11. Also, something to note is that pre-orders in Europe, the US, and a few other countries will get a free Gear VR as well.
