Today, during Townhall Q&A session at IIT-Delhi in India, Mark Zuckerberg revealed about his company’s plans to perhaps block the most irritating stuff in Facebook Universe — CandyCrush Invites.
He says, that Facebook is working on a new feature that will introduce an easy way to block all the annoying requests such as candy crush invites.
Zuck says, that he had observed requests for blocking those candy crush invites was ‘the most’ upvoted question in an online thread. Thus, he decided to act. While he said that the company is working on the solution, he has not revealed any information when the feature will roll out.
It is also noteworthy that the company will not be closing down the entire invite system of the Candy Crush Saga, but it will make it harder for the people to annoy others with such invites or requests.
Mark Zuckerberg said,
I sent a message to the person who runs the team in charge of our developer platform, and I said that by the time I do this Townhall Q&A, it would be good if we had a solution to this problem. She emailed me later that night, and said there are some tools — that are kind of outdated — that allow people to send invitations to people who’ve never used a game, and don’t play games on Facebook. We hadn’t prioritized shutting that down, we just had other priorities. But if this is the top thing that people care about, we’ll prioritize that and do it. So we’re doing it!
While Mark Zuckerberg defended Facebook’s controversial Internet.org project at the event, which as per the critics is violating the principles of net neutrality, he also emphasized that Facebook has always supported net neutrality, and companies providing Internet access should not favor sites or restrict access.
India is Facebook’s second biggest market after the United States, with about 130 million of its 1.5 billion worldwide users, which makes it critically important for its business.
