A couple of hours back, Blackberry confirmed the news that it has acquired Germany-based Voice encryption firm, Secusmart. The financial details of the deal have been kept under wraps.

The transaction is subject to the satisfaction of certain customary conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals.

Secusmart is an  expert in the development and implementation of comprehensive anti-eavesdropping solutions for German government agencies and organizations responsible for the provision of emergency services as well as governments and public authorities outside of Germany.

Sharing his views on this recent acquisition, Blackberry’s CEO and executive chairman, John Chen said,

We are always improving our security solutions to keep up with the growing complexity of enterprise mobility, with devices being used for more critical tasks and to store more critical information, and security attacks becoming more sophisticated

The deal, although much needed and highly beneficial for blackberry, has come too late, according to indusrty analysts. This is because, the close association of Secusmart, with Blackberry, has been evidennt for past many years.

Ron Miller, at TechCrunch, argues that the deal has come too late for Blackberry. He says :

I first came across Secusmart in 2012 while attending CeBIT, the giant German technology trade fair. At the time, they talked about a close relationship with BlackBerry. The question is why did BlackBerry take so long to purchase this company, which was obviously a good match.

Blackberry has been finding it difficult to stay alive, in a market, which is dominated by iPhones and androids. This is clear from the fact that, Blackberry, which held a 40% market share in the US till recent past, now accounts for a meagre 2 % in the post-iPhone era.
