Sony’s PlayStations are not just a console, they are a cult! The devices have revolutionized gaming since the release of the first console years ago and today, the company has announced the launch of PlayStation 5.

Sony has not revealed much information at this point except from the name (PlayStation 5, big surprise there!), however, we do have a couple of important points.

Speaking on the topic, SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan said:

These updates may not be a huge surprise, but we wanted to confirm them for our PlayStation fans, as we start to reveal additional details about our vision for the next generation.

What we do know at this point is that the system will have a haptic feedback system on board replacing the rumble technology. This will help with simulated experiences improving the overall game experience. The company is also adding in some brand new Adaptive Triggers which will provide a new level of immersion.

As per Ryan:

Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain. In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions. Game creators have started to receive early versions of the new controller, and we can’t wait to see where their imagination goes with these new features at their disposal.

The device is expected to go on sale sometime in 2020, probably around the holiday session. With this announcement, Sony is probably looking to give a heads up to game developers and games alike and build a buzz around the PS5, without giving too much away. With that said, we expect more information to trickle through over the next couple of months before the actual launch next year.
