Twitter’s long drawn search for an MD for its India business has finally ended. The company has zeroed in on Manish Maheshwari, digital media veteran who was most recently heading Network18’s digital businesses as CEO. Manish will now be seen in a new role with Twitter, as their India MD.
The appointment was made public by Twitter’s VP for APAC Maya Hari. According to Hari, Maheshwari will lead strategy and execution, and will work on increasing user base and revenue in India, which Hari said is “one of our top markets worldwide”.
In a series of tweets exchanged between Manish and Hari over the former’s appointment, Manish said, ” I feel incredibly honoured to be joining @TwitterIndia at this exciting time. India’s future is digital and full of possibilities. With our amazing teams across the country, I’m bullish about the positive impact that we can have on all elements of Indian society.”

Manish Maheshwari’s first test of leadership could well be the ongoing Indian General Elections. His appointment comes at a time when both traditional media and social media platforms are increasingly facing the heat of fake news. Manish, with his extensive media background in running reputed digital publications from the Network18 group, will certainly add to Twitter’s ongoing battle against spread of fake news.
