Microsoft Surface Pro 6

After almost a year and half, Microsoft has now refreshed its Surface Pro hybrid device and the Surface Laptop with the announcement of Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2.

The Surface Pro 6 is now powered by Intel’s 8th generation processor. Microsoft’s Surface chief, Panos Panay says that the company has overhauled the inside of the Surface Pro 6 for improved cooling. So, with support for quad-core processors, the company claims it will be 67 percent faster than the previous model.

The company has dropped the 4GB RAM model and the 8GB RAM model with Core i5 processor is now the base configuration. All the other specifications remain the same. It still has a 2736×1824 pixels 12.3-inch touch screen display and packs up to 16GB RAM,

There’s a 128GB to 1TB of SSD storage, an 8MP rear-facing camera, and a 5MP front-facing camera with support for  Windows Hello. It has the same array of ports: full-size USB 3.1 generation 1 Type-A port, mini-DisplayPort, Surface Connect port, a 3.5mm headset jack, and a microSDXC card reader.

It also comes with an improved battery performance, with Microsoft claiming around 13.5 hours of battery life on a single charge. The hybrid, which still weighs 1.7 pounds, now also comes in Matte Black color in addition to the Platinum Grey.

On the other hand, the Surface Laptop 2 also has an 8th-generation processor, and the base variant has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. All the other specifications remains the same, except for Bluetooth, which now supports Bluetooth 4.1, instead of 4.0.

It still comes with a 13.5-inch display with a 2256 x 1504 pixels screen resolution. The company is promising a 14.5 hours of battery life on nonstop video playback. The device comes with a single USB 3.0 and Mini DisplayPort.

Both the devices come with Windows 10 Home pre-installed instead of the Windows 10 Pro. Microsoft has announced that the pricing of Surface Pro 6 will start at $899 and the Surface Laptop 2 will start at $999. Currently available for pre-orders, the devices will start shipping from 16th October.
