Adding another country to its expanding list of glocal operations, Amazon has now announced commencement of its operations in Turkey. The company, at its initial launch, will start serving Turkish customers in 15 categories.
We are committed to building our business in Turkey in the coming months by expanding our selection and delivery options
Sam Nicols, country manager for Amazon.com.tr said in a written statement.
Amazon’s Turkey launch has been in rumours for quite some time. Turkey will be the first European Union country that Amazon will launch, outside of the EU. The company, that became the second US company after Apple to hit $1 Trillion in market cap., will serve Turkey’s 80 Million populace, via the domain Amazon.com.tr.
However, even though Turkish sellers and local merchants can start listing their products on the on the portal, there is currently no news or information on whether Amazon has opened a warehouse locally in the country. We will get to know the same in the coming months, as operations begin and catalogue expansion takes place.
