YouTube is the biggest playground for video content on the interwebs. While you can find high-quality videos from full-time video creators, the platform also serves as an outlet for those who may have shot their friend’s silly antics or a birthday celebration video worth sharing with the world.

But, there are times you find yourself stuck with a vertical video and you have to watch the same with the black strips on each side. This can sometimes be quite frustrating as it disrupts the viewing experience and doesn’t allow you to completely interact with the content you’re viewing. Thus, YouTube has finally decided to remedy the problem.

At the annual gathering of online video creators and fans, better known as VidCon, YouTube announced that it will now enable the users to view the video uploaded to the platform in the best possible way, no matter what format you choose to shoot them in, but on mobile. This update follows on the heels of the desktop interface refresh, which went live just earlier this year.

This means YouTube is presently readying an update for its mobile app and it will ‘dynamically’ adapt to the size of the video you’re displaying on your device. For example: if you’ve shot your video on a wide-angled Go Pro or in portrait mode using your phone, the YouTube mobile app’s player will now ‘seamlessly’ resize based on the video — filling the complete screen to provide you an intuitive and immersive experience.

The YouTube app update, which is due in the coming weeks, will bring along this new experience that pays no heed to the format of the uploaded video. As seen in the GIF attached above, it could either be formatted horizontally, vertically, or in a square shape. The Google-owned company is also debuting a completely new sharing mechanism that’ll enable you to send videos directly to contacts, that too from within YouTube.

Last year, we announced a new sharing feature that lets you share videos right from the YouTube app. In a couple weeks, it’ll be available in Latin America and then throughout the U.S. soon after that.
