game drive hub

Today is turning out to be a major day for gaming enthusiast. Earlier today, Microsoft revealed its latest video gaming console — Xbox One X and Seagate has now announced a massive external storage add-on for the console — Segate Game Drive Hub.

If you are not just a casual gamer, there is a good chance you might fill the internal hard drive. While 500GB/1TB seems like a lot, it can fill quickly if you’re a hardcore gamer like me. If you are one of those, here is some good news from Seagate.

Today, Seagate has announced a special USB hard drive for Xbox One, called “Game Drive Hub,” which features a 3.5-inch 8TB drive and a front-facing two-port USB hub.

Additional Game Drives can also be used through the hub, allowing for some impressive storage daisy-chaining. Seagate has also confirmed that not only will it work with Xbox One and Xbox One S, but the Xbox One X as well. Commenting on the launch, the company said:

The new Seagate Game Drive Hub for Xbox features 8TB of storage and a multi-purpose USB hub for players with massive game libraries demanding peak game storage capacity for today’s most advanced games. Designed and tested in collaboration with Xbox, Game Drive Hub for Xbox works seamlessly with any console in the Xbox One family of devices (Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X).

However, adding 8TB storage to your Xbox One will not come cheap. The Game Drive Hub costs $199 — the price at which you can get an Xbox One S. But, it seems sort of reasonable given the monstrous capacity.

Given the massive capacity, it will require a dedicated energy source as it cannot be powered from the Xbox. The company has not yet revealed when you can buy it. Seagate simply says that it will be available later this month.

With the recent launch of Microsoft’s download-only Xbox Game Pass subscription service, such hard drive options couldn’t have a better timing.
