Samsung has inked partnerships with UFC, X-Games and Live Nation to stream live events on the Gear VR platform. It has launched VR Live Pass on Gear VR for the same which will feature an exciting lineup of events. The users will be able to watch virtual reality broadcasts of select music events and action sports via the platform.

The VR Live Pass on Gear VR events will be available through the Samsung VR app in early June. It will enable Gear VR users to watch live entertainment events and performances irrespective of where they are. Those who already own a headset can avail the service at absolutely no cost. The company says it is now present in 45 countries, hence, more people can enjoy the platform. Younghee Lee, CMO and Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics, said,

We are excited to offer Samsung Gear VR users the opportunity to experience their favorite live music and sporting events through our industry-leading VR ecosystem. Partnering with these companies to expand our VR services helps us to open up a new gateway of opportunities for fans and demonstrate our commitment to delivering experiences that make the seemingly impossible, possible.

The live broadcasts beginning this week will include UFC 212: Aldo vs. Holloway (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, June 3), X Games Minneapolis (USA, July 13-16), and Live Music Concerts with International Artist (USA, August). UFC Chief Operating Officer Ike Lawrence Epstein, commented,

We’re excited to partner with Samsung on this game-changing initiative to further revolutionize how fight fans consume our content and live events around the world.

A report suggests that Samsung Gear VR has sold the maximum headsets in Q1 2017, and is expected to lead the market this year. However, the VR headsets aren’t that popular in the West, so this development may result in an increased popularity of the gadget. The users might reconsider their decisions of purchasing them to experience these immersive virtual reality broadcasts.

Also, the live streams of the UFC 212 main card, including the championship main event, will be available in countries where Samsung VR is available, except the U.S. and New Zealand.
