Though Samsung has already taken the wraps off its freshest flagship devices — Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, new prototypes of the larger device among the two are still making rounds of the interwebs. Today, we’ve come across clear, real-life images of a prototype has surfaced and it suggests that the Korean hardware behemoth was mulling over the inclusion of a dual rear camera setup, with no fingerprint sensor next to the same.
As you can clearly see in the image attached below, the dual-camera sensors, heart rate monitor, and an LED flash under the camera on the rear of the smartphone. Surprisingly enough, the Galaxy S8 Plus prototype doesn’t follow the trend with its dual camera setup. These cameras are aligned vertically at the center of the smartphone instead of being placed towards the corner.
Also, a significant change that you would’ve noticed on the prototype is the absence of the fingerprint sensor — which has been placed next to the camera in the officially released devices. The awkward placement of the sensor on the far right, next to the camera setup is due to a last-minute decision to change the design. This would have surely been the final design of the Korean giant’s larger Galaxy S8 Plus (possibly also for the Galaxy S8) if it wouldn’t have faced issues with the under-glass fingerprint sensor.
There is a lack of the fingerprint sensor on the rear side of the smartphone prototype as Samsung had initially planned to include the scanner below the phone’s display. The Korean giant is even said to have poured significantly massive sums of money into Synaptics for the speedy development of the technology — in time for the release of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. But, the test results were not satisfactory and the company didn’t have enough to tweak the under-glass (in-display) fingerprint sensor before the release.
Well, we may not have been able to get our hands on this cutting-edge biometric technology but you could expect this to be integrated into upcoming Samsung devices sooner or later. If the Korean behemoth is able to perfect their fingerprint sensor tech in time for the release of the Galaxy Note 8 later this year then it would surely be an impressive feat for the smartphone industry. If not, we would be witnessing its addition in an upcoming S series smartphone.
As for the already devices, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are one of the most gorgeous smartphones to ever be manufactured by any hardware maker in the industry. The devices feature a 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch Infinity display respectively, with minimal bezels on the top and bottom of the screen. It is also the first Samsung smartphone to feature the company’s in-house AI voice assistant Bixby but the same wouldn’t be released alongside the phone next week. Still, the customers are hogging the pre-orders like crazy. Samsung has already received over 728,000 orders, which surpasses the Galaxy S7s pre-order record.
