verizon-yahoo, Yahoo

Things have a funny way of coming right out in public when you are trying to keep a lid on them. Verizon, AOL and Yahoo experienced something of the sport when the branding they had decided upon for the entity to be formed as a result of Yahoo’s merger with AOL, came out in the open. Oath, was not even expected to be made public this week. However,  after leaks hurled the name right out in the public, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong hurried to make a formal announcement via Twitter.

In his Tweet, Armstrong had said:

Billion+ Consumers, 20+ Brands, Unstoppable Team. #TakeTheOath. Summer 2017.

The new name quickly became the butt of many jokes. There were a got of questions about why Google was replacing such a well known brand as well. CEO Armstrong kept his thoughts on the matter out in the matter.

Speaking about the issue with TechCrunch, Armstrong said that the Oath branding was more about creating a brand that could sustain and support both AOL and Yahoo, rather than creating a all new name in the field. This way, AOL can still maintain its unique following, along with that of Yahoo’s, while also presenting a unified front to businesses. So Oath basically, is a B2B front for businesses adnt eh companies while operating together and in close conjunction, will also be taking their specialized paths.

Armstrong also said that the company will take a final call over the executives and come up with a list in around 4 weeks. Over whether or not Marissa Mayer will make it to the list, he merely said he and his team will put the right people into the right job. Well, Considering the size Mayer’s severance can run into, it might make more sense to just hire her. But that isn’t for us to say. There is also whether she would be amenable to working under, say Armstrong.

For now though, work is on on shoring up the security and ensuring that the two companies integrate together as smoothly as possible., Both f these jobs are not easy and yet, are vitally important. I am also very curious about what Oath will do with regards to the Yahoo brand. We should know more once the company makes an official, unhurried debut in a few weeks.
