AI is at the heart of much of today’s technical innovation. The world is advancing towards AI-powered machines which can sense, respond, and act human capabilities in most fields, be it commerce, education or healthcare. In the wake of this global AI revolution globally, Intel aims to promote the technology among India’s developer community. Hence, it has announced a new initiative called AI Developer Education Program.
The initiative was announced at the company’s very first AI Day conference hosted in Mumbai today. The event welcomed the Indian government, industry experts, and the academia to address the significance of AI in present times. This event not only talked about adoption of the technology within Intel’s ecosystem but also further shined a light on the transformation of India’s e-commerce space with AI and machine learning capabilities.
Speaking of the AI Developer Education Program, the initiative aims to impart education to more than 15,000 scientists, developers, analysts, and engineers on key AI technologies, including deep learning and machine learning. The program will host workshops, roadshows, user group, and senior technology leader round tables among other interactive proposals counting to 60 agendas for the year itself.
To further boost the efforts of the students, it has collaborated with the industry biggies such as Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, Wipro, Julia Computing and Calligo Technologies. This means an increase in opportunities for using AI and reduction in entry barriers for developers, data scientists and students. In India, Intel targets BFSI, telecom, and e-commerce sectors, across High-Performance Computing (HPC), big data, and Internet of Things (IoT), all of which are complementary to AI.
The aim of the initiative is to impart skills and develop solutions in the field of artificial intelligence by utilizing local talent pool and collaborating to contribute significantly towards the adoption of AI.
Commenting on the developments in the field, Prakash Mallya, Managing Director, Intel South Asia, said,

For the record, Intel powers 97 percent of data centre servers running AI workloads and offers the most flexible, yet performance-optimized portfolio of solutions, which in itself shows company’s dedication towards progress in the country. Intel’s collaboration with tech behemoths such as Google and acquisition of companies including Saffron, Movidius, Nervana Systems and Mobileye are aimed at furthering its AI capabilities.
In the past month, the chipmaker introduced a cross-Intel organisation named as the Artificial Intelligence Products Group (AIPG). This organisation has been set up to reduce costs and build affordable solutions by aligning Intel’s AI efforts and rallying the industry around a set of standards for AI. The company now plans to launch an AI research lab dedicated to pushing the forefronts of computing to explore architectural and algorithmic approaches.
