Samsung Galaxy S8, the Korean giant’s flagship device has still got a good few weeks before its official unveiling. But, there seems to be no dearth of leaks, rumors, and speculations about the said device on the interwebs. Now, thanks to Evan Blass (widely recognized as tipster evleaks) has posted a press render of the device on Twitter. And the device looks as beautiful and particularly tall as it looked in every other previous leak.
Much like every year, Samsung is expected to release two variants of the Galaxy S8 — one with a 5.7-inch screen and other with a huge 6.2-inch screen to compensate for the Note 7. As seen in the render, the display will be curved on both sides and rounded at the edges this time around (giving the screen an LG G6 kind of vibe). We cannot see the top or bottom, so availability of the headphone jack still remains a mystery.
The Korean giant has also decided to remove its signature home button in favor of minimal top and bottom bezels. The Galaxy S8 will rely on software-based navigation buttons, which have also leaked earlier. The top bezel can be seen hosting a collection of sensors as well as the front camera. One of these will have to be the much-rumored iris scanner, which is expected to make an appearance in the handset.
As for the hardware specifications, the said device will be powered by the latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and their own Exynos 9 series processors. Samsung has already started hogging the entire supply of SD chips, making LG turn to SD 821 for their flagship launch. In addition, the press renders attached above also corroborates the addition of a fourth extra button on the device. This button is most likely expected to either invoke a function — like opening the camera or muting a call. But, it could also be used to trigger the upcoming Viv-powered AI assistant called Bixby.
Samsung’s MWC launch event came and went, but we didn’t witness the launch of its upcoming flagship device Galaxy S8, as expected. The Korean giant instead showed off a teaser video and announced they’ll be unveiling the device at an exclusive event on March 29 in New York. So, we have a good 28 days to go before we witness the phone in all its glory. Until then, press renders and hands-on videos will have to suffice.
