In the wake of its release tomorrow, DICE has shared the details on the contents of Battlefield 1’s Winter update. The game publisher detailed the said contents via their live broadcast.

This update will primarily deal with the upgradation of progression systems and fixing any bugs. DICE has outlined many of the prime changes that are arriving and it was officially noted that this was going to be a smaller, bug fix-focused patch. Also, as response to all the fan feedback they received, it decided to introduce some brand new features to help ease the wait for the next major Battlefield 1 update.

The biggest among these additions is the raise to the maximum class rank cap to 50. This change is applied not just for base classes but also to the more specialised classes, such as Pilot and Tanker, as well as the Elite Kits.

Ribbons, as speculated, are also finally making a comeback with the Battlefield 1 Winter update. Unlike medals, which you have to specifically choose to track at once, these will all be tracked constantly while playing. Performing particular tasks such as securing three kills while on a horse will reward you with one of these ribbon and bonus experience points. In addition, these ribbons can be unlocked repeatedly within a single match. There will be 20 in the winter update, with more coming in future patches.

Those who currently own any rented servers will be gaining a new kick and ban option, along with a way to enable map voting. With this turned on, players will be given the option to choose from one of two maps on the victory screen that they want to play on next. Sadly though, this isn’t a feature that we’ll see on official Battlefield servers just yet, but DICE has suggested that a positive response to the feature might just see it added down the line.

A variety of UI, vehicle, and weapon changes are in store for you as well. These hadn’t been detailed in full, but we know that the heavy tank will now pop up on the minimap and the cooldown on vehicles’ gas abilities is increasing. The infamous scope-less sniper, Martini-Henry, which had been nerfed in a previous update, was deemed to hit a little too hard and is accordingly receiving a slight buff to make it a bit more competitive.

Full patch notes will be released tomorrow, February 14, so we’ll know a lot more about the specific changes then. The update rolls out on all platforms tomorrow as well, though DICE didn’t commit to any specific time for the rollout to begin.
