Continuing with the expansion of its budget smartphone offerings, Chinese upstart Xiaomi is now expected to unveil its next smartphone ‘Redmi 4’ on November 4 in China once again. This announcement, shared via social network Weibo, comes on the heels of the recent launch of the Mi Note 2 , its first-ever curved display smartphone and Mi Mix, the edge-less concept phone.
The teaser poster shared by the company carries info related only to the specifics of the launch event. It carries little or no hints about the smartphone itself. The poster just shows off the top-left edge of the metallic frame and a display that is curved around the edges. But worry not, most of the details for the Redmi 4 have been leaked online through the certification agency TENNA — similar to America’s FCC.
The Xiaomi Redmi 4, though a budget category offering, is expected to launch with a full metal frame. The images leaked online show that the back side of the smartphone could also be carved out of metal to give it some weight and a premium feel. This metal frame will pack in a 5-inch full HD LCD display, with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Talking about the internals, the smartphone will be powered by a octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz. This will be paired with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded to up to 128 GB using a microSD card. Muck like every latest phone, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 is also expected to pack in a hybrid dual-SIM tray and support for other connectivity options.
The camera department will consist of a 13-megapixel rear shooter with PDAF and dual-LED flash, whereas the selfie needs will be accomodated by a 5-megapixel front camera. The phone will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow(not 7.0 Nougat) with Xiaomi’s custom MIUI 8 skin on it. The battery, a forte for the company, is expected to be quite large and lie between 4,000 to 4,100 mAh.
The rumor mill further suggests that the Xiaomi Redmi 4 will be made available in three colors, including Grey, Silver and Gold. And not just that, the company is also expected to unveil an even affordable plastic variant of the smartphone — Redmi 4A — at the launch event.
The Redmi 4A will pack in a 5-inch HD LCD display, 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It will sport a 13-megapixel rear shooter and a 5-megapixel front shooter. The battery size will lie somewhere around 3,000 mAh to 3,030 mAh. It will also be available in fancy Gold and Rose Gold color variants.
As far as the pricing is concerned, reports suggest that the Xiaomi Redmi 4 will be made available for CNY 1,300 (Rs. 13,000), while other reports suggests a CNY 999 (Rs. 9,999) price tag for the Redmi 4, and a CNY 599 (Rs. 5,999) price for the Redmi 4A.
